I have to wonder...

Does anyone really even use LJ anymore?
Do I still have friends here? Or should I let this go the way of my myspace page and delete it?

Is there anyone still out there?

Till anon,

Anime Expo Anime Music Video Contest 2009 now open!
The rules are approved and posted.

You can find the PDF with the rules and the entry form at this address:

Please be sure to read through the rules as there have been changes made.

The three primary changes are,
1. New entry address.
I moved to Ventura and got a P.O. Box Accordingly.
2. No Tape Media Submissions.
Last year we only had one entry come in on tape out of the whole lot.
3. No FTP server provided by AX or the Contest Coordinators
Last year this was way more trouble than it was ultimately worth. If you want to submit online it is up to you to find and use a service such as YouSendIt, Megaupload, Rapidshare or similar service. There are many of them out there. Many are free for one off files. If you elect to go this route it is up to you to find/pick the service you wish to use then provide us the link to your file and form (though last year some gave us the link them sent the form in the old fashioned way. This is fine).

OK now On to the rules! Cut to save your page spaceCollapse )
The entry form is in the PDF available form the link I placed at the start of this post.
We look forward to seeing your entries and know we will have another awesome show.

As one journey ends, another begins
As 2008 winds to a close I would like to wish all a happy new year. May you seek and gain all that you want and need. More importantly, may the two coincide. :)

As this year ends it is the literal renewing in my life. I am moving to Ventura. This weekend.

Details behind the cut for those interestedCollapse )

Wish me luck.

It's official. Evac Warning lifted as of 12:40p
I just got the word from the county site that they have redrawn the evac order and warning lines. The warning line has shrunk to what is essentiallly the borders of that which was the mandatory area a while ago. The mandatory has shrunk significantly.

For those interested here is a link to the current evac area. (warning VERY high resolution image) https://www.countyofsb.org/uploadedImages/ceo/oes/EvacAreasWeb_111508_11x17_update1100_hrs.jpg

thank you again to all of you who offered thoughts of support and prayers. It seems the idiots are out in force as fires erupt at various points in LA, Riverside and Orange counties. To all my friends and all the residents down there, Be safe. If they tell you to leave, for goodness sake leave!

I think I am gonna go pass out now the immediate thread has passed.

Thank you all again.

Update. Sat Nov 15,2008 noon (ish)
The name of the game...is hurry up and wait. Which is a polite way of saying nothing has changed as far as warnings and alerts go. We are still under warning, everything above APS (1/4 mile away) is still under mandatory evac.  I understand the whole no news is good news concept and how it applies in this situation but The county hasn't updated the notification site in a while, and it is mildly nerve wracking.

That being said.
We are all still ok.  stuff is still staged, though I am considering bringing the computers back in.(missing wow at hi-res) Air is significantly less smokey.

To those near and affected by the Sylmar fire, you have my sympathies and well wishes.  Be safe, be careful.

mysryael  mentioned another fire to me as being on the Vent/SB county border. I haven't anything new on that one since she mentioned it. Its another resource drain that we (us here in SB and those in LA) really don't need but the universe (and asshole humans) are perverse that way.

So, we wait. Brief forrays out into the non-warned world to get food and such.  If this keeps up through tomorrow I have to give serious consideration as to whether I should stay home or go to work on the off chance the warning changes to an order.

Thank you all for your words and thoughts of support and your prayers and energies.

More as I have it.

On the unrelated plus side...While twiddling thumbs waiting..the DVD project from hell can now be officially called DONE!!!! Will deliver them next weekend...Unless the house really does burn down in which case i am taking it as a sign from the gods that that project really was cursed. ;-) (you take humor where you can find it.)

Current status. as of 2:30p Friday 11/14/2008
For those keeping an eye.

The house is still here. we are still here.
To prevent opportunistic people from pillaging shit from the back of my pick up it has been emptied to the staging area in the garage where I normally park my bike. It can be reloaded and secured in well under 5 minutes.

Our residence is still under evac warning not order. Should the order come down we will be out the door within 10 min.

Anneke's parents are fine..I don't know if they are still as prepped as they were yesterday but they appear to be.

I was able to get a bit of fitful sleep once major crisis management mode started to wind down (the fire being beaten back over the hill we are on) Anneke volunteered to take first watch and I tried to sleep. It was very fitful and the entire house having that rich smokey flavor certainly didn't help.

When I went out to get food last night I swung by work to retrieve my laptop so I would have an available internet connection to let people know whats goin on. (my main compy is packed and covered IN the cab of my truck.)

To those reading and keeping an eye I thank you with all my heart and soul. Your concern and in many cases remote assistance with information and verification of thought processes (even if you didn't realize you were doing it mysryael ) are deeply appreciated.

For those wanting the officially released status updates on the fire itself I would point you at www.countyofsb.org (yes I know you have far more detailed resources mysryael , you also have the training and skill set to interpret those sources, this is for those without your background. :) )

On the humorous/kinda cool front, they were using the middle school near us for the refueling/refilling of water point for the helicopters that were dropping water and such last night. Our place is directly in the flight path of their taking off to drop so several times we were able to stand in the driveway and look up and clearly see their underbelly as they were less than 100ft  from the roof .

Oddly enough, hearing them fly over periodically was strangely comforting as I tried to sleep because I knew that meant it was being dealt with, if that makes sense.

Anyway, thats all i have to report for now.
Thank you all again for your concern and words of support.

For those following. Our residence is recommended evac not mandatory yet. Checked on Anneke's parents ...who while are still being silly in my opinion but they are at least watching the TV and keeping an eye on things.

Going to get food now as I am fading fast. Bike is safely off site. This is NOT how I wanted to spend my day off.

Fire is "laying down" at the moment. We are keeping a close eye on it. VERY close.

I will post more as I have it.

Account Maintenance.
For a variety of reasons. I have elected to do a pretty much fresh start with my LJ. I don't use it much. Haven't posted regularly in forever. I chose to wipe the slate clean and start from nearly scratch. I say almost becuase I couldn't bring myself to remove the entry about my Grandmother's passing. I couldn't bear to do that.

I have also significantly trimmed my Flist. Anyone removed. Understand it isn't personal. I just trimed alot of people who had trimmed me or who seem to have gone into vaporware or whom I originally added and realized over time I have nothing in common with. It isn't a judgement or slap. It is me trying to get my shit straight and things balanced.

If you were removed and really upset about it. Let me know and I can see about fixing it.

A life remembered.
For those of you who have wondered why I have been so out of it this last week. here is why...

A somewhat long and hopefully not too rambling explanation of events and memories.Collapse )

From the Ontario California Daily Bulletin Saturday September 23rd 2006 (it may have actually been Friday. The date wasn't on the copy my g'mother sent me)

Marcia J. Underwood

Long time Ontario resident Marcia Jean Underwood, 81,passed away on Tuesday, September 19, in Eureka, California. She is survived by her son, Gordon Underwood, Two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Marcia was born in Upland, California and spend most of her childhood, and nearly all of her adult life in Ontario. She was very active in the Ontario artist community and volunteered as an arts and crafts instructor for the City Recreation Department over many summers. Before retiring, Marcia worked last for the Department of Corrections in Norco, as well as previous positions with the Bank of America and in local retail businesses. She also supported and volunteered for many local cultural arts programs and events. Marcia moved to Eureka, California in 1989, where she continued a very active life in the fine arts.
No services are planned. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the Rosalind Russell Medical Research Center for Arthritis at University of California, San Francisco."

She was so much to me. I sincerly hope she is in a better place.
Good bye Footy .... I already miss you more than I could possibly express...Thank you for being there for me... and for helping to make me the person I am today, For accepting me for who and what I am...no matter what. You literally helped keep me alive through some of the toughest points in my child and early adulthood.

I honestly believe you left the world a little better place than you entered it...and in the end that is all any of us can really ask for. I love you.
